CamScan PDF Privacy Policy
Effective date: 14 September 2026
This privacy policy explains what information the CamScan PDF app handles, where that information goes, and the choices you have. It applies to the CamScan PDF app for Android (package name tech.earc.camscanpdf), published on Google Play by E Arc LLC ("we", "us", "our").
The short version
- There is no account and no sign-in. You do not give us your name, email or phone number to use the app.
- Your scans, photos, documents, recognised text and backups are stored on your phone. We do not run a server for this app, and we never receive your documents.
- Scanning, text recognition, QR code reading, translation and the other document tools run on your phone.
- The app shows ads from Google AdMob. To show and measure ads, Google collects some device information, such as your IP address and advertising ID.
- You can buy "Remove ads" once. Google Play handles the payment, and we never see your card details.
- Location is used only if you turn on "Place" in Timestamp mode, only while you use it.
- We do not sell your personal information.

1. Who we are and how to contact us
CamScan PDF is developed and published by E Arc LLC, a limited liability company registered in the State of Texas, United States.
- Developer: E Arc LLC
- Privacy contact email: hello@earc.tech
- Website: www.earc.tech
You can also reach us from inside the app: open Me, then About CamScan PDF, then Contact us.
2. Information that stays on your phone
CamScan PDF is built to work on your phone. The information below is created and stored inside the app's private storage on your phone. It is not sent to us, and the app does not upload it anywhere.
- Camera pictures and scans. Pictures you take with the app's camera, and the pages made from them.
- Photos and files you bring in. Photos, PDFs and other files you choose with your phone's file or photo picker, share to the app, or open with the app.
- Recognised text. Text the app reads from your pages, translations, and QR code or barcode contents.
- What you add. Document names, folders, tags, signatures, stamps, notes, markup, and the details you type for Timestamp photos (such as operator, company and note).
- Settings. Your app preferences, such as theme, language and scan settings.
- App lock. If you set a PIN or password, the app keeps only a scrambled check value, never the PIN or password itself. Fingerprint and face unlock are handled by Android; the app never receives your fingerprint or face data.
The following features also run on your phone:
- Text recognition, QR code and barcode scanning, language detection, translation and ID photo background removal use Google ML Kit on the phone. Your pictures and text are processed on the device and are not sent to Google or to us for this processing. See section 7 for the small amount of technical information ML Kit sends to Google.
- PDF tools and exports (merge, split, compress, password protect, sign, watermark, and saving as PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, text or images) are done on the phone.
- Read Aloud uses the text-to-speech service installed on your phone. That service comes from your phone maker or Google and follows its own privacy terms.
- Printing uses Android's own print system and the printer or print service you choose.
Backups. When you use Save backup, the app writes one file containing your documents, folders, tags, signatures and settings. The file is saved to your phone's Download folder, or to a place you choose. We never receive this file. The backup file is not encrypted (locked documents are included only after you unlock them), so keep it somewhere safe.
No cloud copy by Android. The app is set so that Android's automatic cloud backup and phone-to-phone transfer do not copy the app's documents or data.
3. Phone permissions the app uses
- Camera: to scan documents and take photos inside the app. The app asks the first time you use the camera.
- Location (optional): only for the "Place" option in Timestamp mode. See section 4.
- Storage (older Android versions only): on Android 12 and older, to list PDF files saved by other apps; on Android 9 and older, to save files to the Download folder. Newer Android versions use the system file picker and do not need this permission.
- Internet and network state: to load ads, show the consent message, download translation language packs, and check the "Remove ads" purchase with Google Play.
- Fingerprint or face (biometric): only if you choose to unlock the app lock with it.
- Advertising ID: used by Google's ads service, as described in section 5.
You can refuse or later turn off any permission in your phone's Settings. Features that need a permission will not work without it, and the rest of the app keeps working.
4. Location in Timestamp mode
Timestamp mode can print the date, time and, if you want, the place on a photo. Location is off by default.
- The app asks for location permission only when you turn on the "Place" switch in Timestamp mode.
- The app reads your location only while you are using Timestamp mode with Place turned on. It never reads your location in the background.
- To turn the coordinates into a readable place name, the app uses Android's built-in address lookup service. On most phones this service is provided by Google, so your coordinates are sent to Google to look up the address. The address lookup is covered by Google's privacy policy, linked in section 5.
- The place name and coordinates are drawn onto the photo you take. They are not sent to us.
- Anyone you share a stamped photo with can see the place written on it.
- To stop, turn off the Place switch, or remove the app's location permission in your phone's Settings.
5. Ads and your ad choices
CamScan PDF is free and shows ads (a banner, a full-screen ad after some saves or shares, and an ad when you return to the app). Ads are provided by Google AdMob. Consent and privacy messages are provided by Google's User Messaging Platform.
What Google's ads service collects
According to Google's published information for the Google Mobile Ads SDK, when ads are loaded the ads service collects and shares with Google:
- IP address, which may be used to estimate the general location of the device.
- Device and app identifiers, such as the Android advertising ID and the app set ID.
- Ad interactions, such as app launches, taps on ads and ad views.
- Diagnostic information, such as app launch time, hang rate and energy use.
Google uses this information to show and measure ads, for analytics, and to prevent fraud and abuse. Google states that this information is encrypted while it travels. We do not receive this information in a form that identifies you; AdMob gives us summary reports such as how many ads were shown.
To learn how Google uses this information, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services and the Google Privacy Policy.
Your consent and ad choices
- If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the app shows Google's consent message before personalised ads are used. You can accept, decline, or choose options.
- If you live in a US state with its own privacy law (for example California), Google's privacy message lets you opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for ads.
- You can change your choice at any time in the app: open Me, then Ad privacy choices. This option appears where the law requires it.
- You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's Settings. On most phones: Settings, then Privacy (or Google), then Ads. Deleting it stops apps from using it for personalised ads.
6. The "Remove ads" purchase
You can make a one-time purchase called "Remove ads". It only removes ads; every feature is available without it.
- The purchase is processed by Google Play. You pay through your Google account, and your payment details are handled by Google under the Google Payments Privacy Notice. We never see or store your card or bank details.
- The app asks Google Play whether "Remove ads" was bought on your Google account and keeps a note on your phone so ads stay off, even without an internet connection. This check happens between the app and Google Play on your phone; it is not sent to a server of ours.
- Google Play gives us sales records, such as the order number, date, price and country, which we use only for accounting, taxes, refunds and support.
- After the purchase, the app stops requesting and showing ads on phones signed in to that Google account.
7. Other Google services the app uses
- Google ML Kit. As explained in section 2, your pictures and text are processed on the phone. Google states that ML Kit sends Google some technical information for diagnostics and usage analytics: device details (such as maker, model and Android version), the app's name and version, performance measurements (such as processing time), feature settings and versions, event types, error codes, and a device or installation identifier. Google states that this information is encrypted while it travels and is not given to third parties.
- Translation language packs. The first time you translate into or from a language, the app downloads that language pack from Google. After that, translation works offline. Your text is not sent for translation.
- ID photo background tool. This tool may be downloaded to your phone through Google Play services the first time it is needed. The photo itself is processed on the phone.
- Links you open. If you open a web link (for example from a QR code, the help pages, or Rate the app), it opens in your browser or the Google Play app, which follow their own privacy policies.
The app does not include any other analytics, crash reporting, social media or tracking tools.
8. When information is shared
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for money. Information is shared only in these cases:
- With Google, for ads, consent messages, ML Kit diagnostics, the address lookup in Timestamp mode, and Google Play purchases, as described above.
- When you choose to share. If you use Share, Export or Print, the document or photo goes to the app, person or printer you pick. What happens next is up to that app or person.
- When the law requires it. We may disclose the little information we hold (such as emails you send us and sales records) if required by law, or to protect our rights and the safety of others.
9. Information you send us
If you email us (including through the contact option in the app), we receive your email address, your message, and anything you attach. The app pre-fills the app version, Android version and phone model in the email so we can help; you can delete these before sending. We use this only to reply to you and to fix problems, and we delete it when it is no longer needed. You can ask us to delete your emails at any time.
10. How long information is kept and how to delete it
- Your documents stay on your phone until you delete them. Deleted documents go to the recycle bin and are removed permanently after the number of days set in the app (30 days unless you change it), or when you empty the bin.
- Uninstalling the app deletes everything the app stored in its private storage on your phone: documents, pages, text, settings and the app lock. Files you exported or backed up to other folders (such as Download) stay on the phone until you delete them.
- Clearing the app's data in your phone's Settings (Apps, CamScan PDF, Storage) also deletes everything stored inside the app.
- Ad information is held by Google under Google's own retention rules. You can reset or delete your advertising ID and change your ad choices as described in section 5, and manage your Google account data at myaccount.google.com.
- Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to help you, and are deleted on request.
- Sales records from Google Play are kept as long as tax and accounting laws require.
Because we do not hold your documents or any account for you, there is nothing on our side to delete for your app data. If you have a question about deletion, email hello@earc.tech.
11. How information is protected
- Documents are kept in the app's private storage, which other apps cannot read.
- You can protect the app, and individual documents or folders, with a PIN, password, fingerprint or face unlock.
- Locked documents are encrypted on the phone with AES-256, using a key protected by the Android Keystore.
- Connections to Google's services use encryption (HTTPS/TLS).
- Android cloud backup of the app's data is turned off, so your documents are not copied to the cloud without you knowing.
No method of storage or transfer is completely secure. Keep your phone locked and keep backup files in a safe place.
12. Children
CamScan PDF is a general productivity app. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email hello@earc.tech and we will delete it.
13. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live (for example in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or a US state such as California, Texas or Virginia), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or get a copy of your personal information, to object to or limit some uses, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising. You also have the right not to be treated differently for using these rights.
- For information on your phone, you are in full control: you can view, change, export or delete it in the app.
- For ad information, use Ad privacy choices in the app and your phone's advertising ID settings, or Google's tools.
- For anything we hold (emails and sales records), email hello@earc.tech. We will reply within the time the law requires. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Google may process information in the United States and other countries where Google operates. E Arc LLC is based in the United States.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app changes or when the law requires it. We will post the new version on this page and change the effective date at the top. If a change is important, we will also mention it in the app's release notes on Google Play.
